Team Captain Responsibilities & Guidelines

·    Captains are responsible for enforcing all team play game rules for their team and notifying the other Captain of any infractions by the other team.

·     Before start time, Captains assure measuring tapes & paddles are placed on the courts.

·    Captains stop practice 15 minutes before start time, remove debris on court, and smooth the court with the squeegee. Captains may smooth courts between games if needed.

·    Captain has team assembled and ready to start promptly at the scheduled start time.

·    Captain participates in the coin toss with the other Captain to determine pallino throw & ball color.

·    Captain assigns players to their position on the court. Once the first ball has been played in the match, player positions cannot be changed for the remainder of the match.

·     Captain designates a player as an " End Captain " for the end of the court opposite that of the Captain and informs the End Captain of their responsibilities. The Captain is the “End Captain” for their end of the court.  (See End Captains Responsibilities and Guidelines below.)

·     Team Captains are responsible for solving any disputes during a match before the next ball is played.

·     Team Captains are responsible for informing non-players to stop coaching players, occupying players green benches, standing on the walkways, or interfering with play.

·     A Team Captain (and only the Team Captain) may go to the opposite end of the court at measurement time to observe the position of the balls and call for measurements if desired.

·     Team Captains are responsible for assuring that the team's points are posted correctly.

·     The Team Captain is responsible for reporting final game scores to the record keeper.

·     Captains of the last teams playing for the day are responsible for assuring all measuring devices & paddles are put away and locking the equipment box.

·    Team Captains must follow the League’s substitution guidelines for replacing missing players. Captains may not select substitutes that significantly improve their team.

·     In case of a possible match rainout the Team Captain must come to the courts 30 minutes before the scheduled start time and notify their team players if the match is cancelled. Team Captains must reschedule rainout tournament matches before the next match date.

·     At the end of the season Team Captains participate in the rating of players which will be used to form teams the next season.

    END Captains Responsibilities & Guidelines

The Team Captain designates a player as an " End Captain " for the end of the court opposite that of the Team Captain. The Team Captain is the “End Captain” for their end of the court. These Guidelines apply to both the Captain and End Captain of each team.

·      End Captain assigns one player at the scoreboard end to post all scores for the team.

·     The End Captain of each team at the non-throwing end of the court stands at the side of the court near the pallino and serve as the referees (Official Referee rules apply). If they agree on the ‘IN’ color they notify the other end of which color should throw. If they disagree, they measure and then notify the other end of which color should throw. (Unless additional measurements are requested by the thrower, measurements are made only to determine the “IN” ball until all balls have been played. Once the “IN” ball has been agreed upon, that “IN” ball cannot be changed unless a later played ball or hit ball is moved closer than the “IN” ball or the “IN” ball is moved by another ball.)

·    After all balls have been played the End Captains report the point score to scorekeepers.

·    Only the End Captains may go on the court for measurements. (No more than 2 people on the court for measurements.)

·     End Captains for each team designate one player to return balls and one player to rack balls after points have been determined.  (No more than two players, one from each team on the court to return balls.)

·     End Captains (or any team member) can only use non-verbal signals to instruct partners at opposite end of court during a match.
